The Allen Civic Ballet presents the 12th annual Allen Dance Festival, Saturday, April 2nd at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 3rd at 2:30 p.m. at the Allen Civic Auditorium.
“There are two things that are most exciting about this year’s show,” says Allen Civic Ballet Artistic Director Stefanie Best. “First of all, the number of guest companies has grown over the years, as has our audience, so we are doing two shows. Secondly, we will be staging a large portion of the Prologue of Sleeping Beauty; we have never attempted such a large section of classical choreography outside of the Nutcracker,” Best adds.
Audience members also will get a chance to see two original works created by Best. The first being First Frost a classical piece staged in the style of Best’s late director and artistic advisor of the Allen Civic Ballet, Madame Nathalie Krassovska. The second is a piece inspired by “of all things a NASCAR race. The dancers love it and I hope the audience does too,” Best says.
Joining the Allen Civic Ballet will be guest artists Melian Izotova and Joshua Allen from Ballet San Antonio, who will be performing the grande pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty. Other group’s making an appearance at the festival include Dancing Minds and Bodies, balletfoundation for the XXIst century, Beacham Dance Theatre, Contemporary Ballet Dallas and the Rhythm Junkies.
Tickets are $7 each and will be available at the door only. More information about this event and others are available at www.allencivicballet.org.
