Aquatic Ballet is Not Dead

Esther Williams

Aquatic ballet and synchronized swimming is not something new to the dance world. But you can’t talk about aquatic ballet without mentioning Esther Williams.

Williams stared in a series of films in the 40s’ and early 50s’ called “aquamusicals” which featured extravagant performances with synchronized swimming and diving. Her nickname around the studio became “Million Dollar Mermaid” which was also the name of her biographical film in 1952.

You really don’t see this style of dancing anymore which is why I was pleasantly surprises to see a segment on it this morning on Good Day FOX 4 in Dallas.

I just had to share this video of the Aqua Lillies with you!
