The Dance Council of North Texas has announced that Dallas-native and “SMASH” season 2 dancer Christopher Vo will be headlining the 17th Annual Dance Planet festival, April 6-7, 2013, at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts in downtown Dallas.

Come out and take a free Zumba, Musical Theater, or Contemporary classes with Chris, a former principal dancer in the national tour of Twyla Tharp’s “Come Fly with Me” and former dancer with the renowned Lar Lubovitch Dance Company from 2008-2011. Chris is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts and The Juilliard School.

“Growing up I had been an attendee of Dance Planet since my 4th grade year,” Vo says. “I remember the arts district, Annette Strauss Square, coming alive with dancers and supporters of dance. I remember the incredible sense of community and feeling so connected to the city through dance.”

TITAS Executive Director Charles Santos adds, “At Booker T., Chris was very sweet, talented and young, but danced with maturity. Today, I see a vibrant artist that’s danced around the world with depth in his dancing and a clear focus on his artistic path. His spirit is open and generous and he never forgets where he came from.”

In total, this FREE community event offers 30 free dance & fitness classes taught by professionals from all over North Texas. Also on the roster are two afternoon Performance Showcases featuring more than 80 dance troupes and 1,000 performers from around the area. Each performance culminates with a solo performance by headliner Chris Vo. Preceding the showcase Chris will do a Q&A about his career from 12:15PM to 1:00PM.

The Dance Planet Festival is America’s largest free dance festival of its kind and appropriate for all ages.
